The Painter

She opened up my eyes
She opened up my mind
She took away the chain link fence
I raised around myself, waiting for the sun

I took upon my soul
The heavy weight of life
And landed in a cold, wet rut
I couldn't find my way but for the help of friends

She paints ordinary skies
And lights them with the painter's eye
She opened up her heart and opened up my life

I used to feel this way
When I was just a kid
And rainbows led to pots of gold
Now, in a different way, things are just the same
